Lately we are seeing a trend toward fun in large and small ways we are striking out undaunted by the past and hopeful for the future and the trends in home décor are reflecting our needs for delight and surprise once again. What we have seen at the Milan Furniture Show [Salone Internazionale del Mobile] this Spring you may be seeing already in home fashion magazines: surprising zips of bold color, natural and muted backgrounds, quilted furniture fashions, mix and match natural materials, and just plain wild florals, brilliant against black or white or colorful backgrounds. Take a look here at latest trends in home fashions for the upcoming 2011/2012, and be the first on the block to set the pace for the human race.
Zippers of Color By: Craig Nakano (LATimes)
“At the 2010 Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the Milan furniture fair where the world’s greats in home décor are gathered to premiere their 2010 collections, Philippe Starck strode up to the pedestal where the designer’s new outdoor chairs were perched like art. He ran his fingers over the soft curves of the silky polyethylene, and as cameras flashed and onlookers nudged closer to hear his verdict on the display, Starck didn’t say much of anything to Claudio Luti, owner of manufacturer Kartell, also pictured here. Instead, Starck peered into an armrest, where gloomy black suddenly gave way to sunny orange, and he smiled. A light at the end of the tunnel. Optimism reins at this year’s show. Hop along for a tour of the bright (and not so bright) ideas to premiere this year. Mid-century Modern brings artful design to everyday life. Joyful, graphic, colors and black show us the well considered life can also be fun. Microscopic view of Nature – all in good fun. Georgia O’Keefe painted flowers so large that the passerby on New York streets had to notice the sensual detail. In a similar fashion, we will be seeing a lot of magnified beauty, reminding us of our connection to nature and it’s intricate and sometimes discomforting patterns.”
